It was commissioned by the family of 〔http://www.geobuildltd.com/en/?action=batumi〕 Aslan Beg (the equivalent of duke) Khimshiashvili, a Muslim Georgian nobleman in 1886. The walls of the mosque were painted by the Laz brothers.
